Key Nonfarm Payrolls Report on the Horizon
Economists are predicting a significant slowdown in job additions for June, as highlighted in the nonfarm payrolls report. This cooling in labor demand might just be the nudge the Fed needs to start slashing interest rates from their two-decade highs.
Expectations:
Job additions are estimated at 191,000, down from 272,000 in May.
Average hourly wages are expected to rise by 0.3% month-on-month.
The unemployment rate is projected to remain steady at 4.0%.
Recent data showed that private payroll growth eased, and the quits rateāan indicator of labor market confidenceāheld steady. A cooling jobs market could reduce inflation pressures, making a strong case for potential rate cuts by the Fed in 2024.
Samsung Electronics Predicts Massive Profit Surge
In tech news, Samsung Electronics is anticipating a massive 15-fold increase in its second-quarter profits, thanks to booming demand for artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
Financial Forecast:
Operating profit is expected to hit 10.4 trillion won ($7.50 billion), compared to 670 billion won last year.
This is the highest profit since Q3 2022, smashing forecasts of 8.8 trillion won.
Samsungās success is driven by the surging demand for memory chips in the AI sector. The company is gearing up for mass production of advanced high-bandwidth memory chips, aiming to secure more orders from industry heavyweights like Nvidia.
Political Shifts in Europe: Labour's Win and French Elections
On the political front, the U.K.ās Labour Party has clinched a sweeping victory, ending a 14-year Conservative rule and bringing fresh energy to the market. This win has boosted U.K. stocks and the pound, signaling potential stability after years of economic turmoil.
Election Highlights:
Labour, led by Keir Starmer, won 410 out of 650 seats.
The rise of the right-wing populist Reform UK party, led by Nigel Farage, adds a new twist to the political landscape.
As the U.K. digests this major shift, all eyes are on France, where the second round of parliamentary voting is imminent. The success of the far-right National Rally in last weekendās vote has set the stage for a contentious political battle.
ā TL;DR
Tesla Surge: Two-day rally inspires Elon Musk to call out Bill Gates.
Crypto Crash: Bitcoin sinks 8% to a four-month low, Ether slides 9%.
Sterling Rally: GBP/USD looks up to $1.28 after UK Labour Party's landslide election win.
Market Watch: Futures climbing (Dow +57, S&P 500 +7, Nasdaq 100 +41) ahead of key labor data.
